Consultative judging could be trialed at RSPBA contests – April 22nd

The much-debated consultative system has been tried and dropped elsewhere, most recently abandoned by the PPBSO. Rarely unpopular with judges, the system has been unpopular with a vocal part of competitors, perhaps a minority.

Why was this story important? News that the RSPBA would bring back this approach to pipe band judging, which it dropped in the early 1990s, indicated that the generally rigid organization might have some flexibility to try new things, even if they are from the past.
