“Live In Ireland 87 In Scotland” on for Celtic Connections – July 5th

The revelation that a group of members of the 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band that participated in the band’s Live In Ireland concert at Ballymena, Northern Ireland, would reprise the music of the event with a group of special guests was exciting news for many who prize the recording and have a bent for nostalgia.

Why was this story important? This event is more than a re-enactment of music or a reunion of veterans, it might well start a perhaps needed musical trend that gives permission to pipe bands to revisit classic material, rather than forever creating things new. We expect to see similar shows from bands that made recordings every bit as important as or even more than the 1987 78th Fraser’s Ulster show.
