EUSPBA completes first online election of officers – November 10th

The Eastern United States Pipe Band Association became the first association known to have conducted a vote of officers online. Apparently, this had never happened before and, even though the EUSPBA balloting was relatively small, it was a historic point in pipe band history.

Why was this story important? Traditionally, the annual general meetings of the world’s pipe band associations are general poorly-attended events, with only a small fraction of membership present to make important decisions. By going online the EUSPBA showed that it is actually possible for associations to join the Aughts and take the vote to the masses. Make no mistake, online voting is a threat to the leaders and controllers of some organizations, so watch for an attempt to suppress the inevitable.
