Piping Live! 2014 – p|d’s daily picks for what to hit
Tuesday, August 12
Gordon Walker – Lunchtime Recital – 1 pm, National Piping Centre
Six quid for an hour of genius from the diminutive giant of piping. Last year, Walker did not touch his perfectly-tuned drones from the moment he took the stage. Truly awesome.
International Quartets – 7:30 pm, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall Strathclyde Suite
If you have a little of the sadist in you, you’ll enjoy even more these Grade 1 quartets, subjecting themselves to probably the most nerve-racking thing in piping. 78th Fraser Highlanders, Bagad Cap Caval, Canterbury Caledonian, Inveraray & District, LA Scots, New Zealand Police, Toronto Police and Vale of Atholl go at it in the MSR and Medley events. Pricey at £16.50, but always packed.
