Make yours a double
August 28th: Sutherland sweeps A-Grade at Oban
September 4th: Murray gains Double Gold at Inverness
It’s one of the rarest of solo piping feats, so when Dougie Murray of Cupar, Scotland, gained the pure “Double” – winning both the Argyllshire Gathering and Northern Meeting Gold Medals in the same year – it was for only the eleventh time in the nearly 200-year history of the events. On average the Double happens about every dozen years. And perhaps even rarer is a double-win of A-Grade light music events at the Argyllshire Gathering, and Craig Sutherland‘s difecta was another astonishing accomplishment.
