The Style Guy: he’s gotcha covered

Dear Stylez, (from Teen Wolf I presume):

What are your thoughts on bands wearing black jackets and waist-coats with a mainly blue tartan? I don’t think it looks bad, but just can’t seem to shake how much better navy would go with these uniforms. While looking like a giant bruise is no fun, neither is appearing to be a Smurf on games day. Any preferences?

Sincerely,

Down for the Count

Yo, Count E. Down. Good questions. It’s hard to answer without seeing the dominant shade of blue in the tartan. Assuming it’s not navy blue, then I would agree that offsetting the lighter blue tartan with a darker blue jacket would be a smart idea. The main thing is it gets your band away from the dreary black, which, yes, goes with everything, but looks like everyone else.

The move to a deep-blue jacket / waist-coat combination does mean that you need a very consistent and reliable supplier as the band adds personnel and needs to replace the inevitable jacket or two destroyed in a beer tent melee.

  1. I’m waiting to see who’s gonna be first to wear jackets with the players” name and number across the back…or white Ghillies to contrast against the black hose…or worn and faded denim kilts with leather jackets and studs for the”terminator” look…or chain pipe cords…or tartan Bermuda shorts with pith helmets in the hotter locales…or designer sporrans by Gucchi…or leather kilts with Kodiak work boots on a rainy muddy field for better traction and water repellent properties…or clear multi-coloured drum shells…yeah…that’s the ticket!”
