Scottish Police Bands Join Forces to Make CD

The five Scottish police pipe bands — Strathclyde Police, Lothian & Borders Police, Tayside Police, Grampian Police, and Dumfries & Galloway Constabulary — have come together to record a compact disc. While the recording might be seen as a tribute to the hundreds of New York City Police Department officers and fire fighters who died in the September 11 World Trade Center terrorist acts, it apparently had been in the works since last summer.

Each band was given 12 minutes each to record whatever they wished, and the CD is scheduled for release in early November.

Among the tracks is “New York’s Finest,” a new composition by Lothian & Borders Police piper John Fraser. The tune was written in memory of all those killed in the disaster.

The CD is being produced by James Banks, a former Pipe-Major with the Scots Guards. It is not known at this point what label, if any, the CD will be on, or whether proceeds are to go to a charitable cause.
