RSPBA Music Board Allegedly Proposes Indoor Grade 1 World’s for 2004

A proposal to hold the 2004 Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championships indoors was reportedly accepted at the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association’s Music Board meeting of November 23rd.

The proposal will allegedly go to the association’s branches and, if accepted, be put to a vote at an RSPBA annual general meeting, either in 2003 or 2004.

The World Pipe Band Championships has been held in Glasgow every year but one since 1981. No major United Kingdom pipe band championship has ever been held in an indoor venue. It is not known where the indoor Grade 1 event would be held or what structure it would take.

Conditions at championships held in the UK have come under increased criticism over the past years. Many believe that the weather quandary came to a head at the 2002 British Pipe Band Championships in Belfast last June when the contest was halted for approximately 30 minutes until heavy rain subsided.
