New collection featuring Donald MacLeod tunes now out
The much anticipated collection of pipe music compiled by Iain MacDonald of Saskatchewan will be unveiled officially at Piping Live! – the Glasgow International Festival of Piping – on Wednesday, August 13th.
The book features many previously unpublished compositions by the great Pipe-Major Donald MacLeod, from whom MacDonald received tuition for several years.
Entitle Along the Road, the collection will be launched at the Street Café of the National Piping Centre in Glasgow. The launch event will include performances by a number of composers with tunes in the collection.
“It’s great to be included as part of the program at the Festival,” said MacDonald. “The National Piping Centre is the focus of the piping world during the Festival, so it’s a boost for the book project to be part of the activities there.”
In addition to the MacLeod compositions, Along the Road includes tunes from several Saskatchewan contributors.
“Many of the compositions in the book are from Canadian pipers who refined their piping in Scotland during World War II,” MacDonald added. “They brought that experience back to Canada, and subsequent generations have all benefited.”
The book, which features 79 compositions, is priced at $25 and is now available directly from Iain MacDonald Music.
As Aaron points out, its Highway 334. It is on the road from” Avonlea to Regina
The cover shot looks like it’s on Highway 334 to Avonlea.
Iain lived in Avonlea, so I’m guessing you’re correct.
I made the drive a fair few times though just as often it was covered with snow. Anyways, I’m looking forward to the tunes.
