McKeown wins Maxville Gold Medal
Maxville, Ontario – August 3, 2007 – Sean McKeown of Toronto won the Piobaireachd Society Gold Medal (Canada) here today against a field of 22 other competitors. His tune was “Lord Lovat’s Lament.”
Second in the event was Jacob Dicker of Sarnia, Ontario, playing “The Bells of Perth,” Ian Lyons of Australia was third, and Michael MacDonald of Toronto finished fourth.
The “Bar” to the medal, reserved for former winners of the Maxville Gold Medal, was won by Andrew Hayes, Ottawa, playing “The Prince’s Salute.” Ian K. MacDonald of Whitby, Ontario, was second, and McKeown, who was allowed to play in the event, was third. They were the only three to compete in the contest.
Bill Livingstone judged both events.
The light music this year is being replaced by a special March, Strathspey & Reel on the Saturday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Glengarry Highland Games.
