Ireland’s St. Laurence O’Toole to stage new concert

The St. Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band of Dublin has announced that it will mount its first concert on May 8 in Newcastle, Northern Ireland.

The band, which qualified for the 2003 Final at the World Pipe Band Championship and finished ninth overall at the event, will play at the 800-seat Shimna Suite at the Slieve Donard Hotel. Sponsored by the Banbridge Pipe Band, “The Dawning of the Day” concert is expected to sell-out.

St. Laurence O’Toole is led by the famed piper and composer Terry Tully, and is known for its innovative musical arrangements. Many of Tully’s compositions have emerged as among the most popular in the modern piping repertory.

“The Dawning of the Day,” according to the band, will feature two-and-a-half hours of material, including many tunes composed and arranged compositions especially for the event.

St. Laurence O’Toole is the most successful competitive pipe band ever from the Republic of Ireland.

Tickets and further information are available via the St. Laurence O’Toole Web site.
