Grey Takes Third Consecutive TO KO
Toronto – April 12, 2003- The annual Archie Dewar Memorial Professional Knockout Competition was held here today at Fort York Armoury on the shore of Lake Ontario, and Michael Grey of Dundas, Ontario, took home the big prize of $1000 for the third straight year.
Nine pipers entered the event, which comprised three rounds, all of which took place on the day. The prize money is some of the best on offer in North America, but those getting to the third round earn it by going through three pressure-packed events.
The first round, a Hornpipe & Jig, paired off contestants, the winners of each section progressing to a March, Strathspey & Reel. From there, three went to the final seven to ten minute medley.
1st Michael Grey
2nd Andrew Hayes, Nepean, Ontario
3rd Ian K. MacDonald, Aurora, Ontario
Also competing in the second round were Rob Crabtree, Toronto; Jason Briscoe, Toronto; and James MacHattie, Toronto. Also playing in the first round were Peter Aumonier, Oakville, Ontario; Glenn Brown, Scotland; and David MacDougall, Toronto.
All three sections were judged by Reay Mackay and Jim McGillivray.
