First Heat of National Piping Centre Quartets
Glasgow – March 28, 2003 – The first heat of the annual Piping Quartet Knockout Competition was held at the National Piping Centre with five bands vying for three spots in the final.
Ultimately, the quartets from David Urquhart Travel, Strathclyde Police and Lothian & Borders Police were selected to go through, finishing in that order.
Also playing but not getting through were Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia and the Dumfries & Galloway Police. The Los Angeles Scots Pipe Band had entered to play but had to withdraw when a member of could not attend due to a work commitment.
Each band played a march, strathspey & reel, and returned to perform a medley after a brief interval.
The second heat of the contest is scheduled for April 25, with ScottishPower, Dysart & Dundonald, Vale of Atholl, Glasgow Skye, Clan Gregor, and the 52nd Lowland Regiment so far entered. The final round will be held on May 30.
