First 2005 event for Alberta
Red Deer, Alberta – June 25, 2005 – Alberta and Saskatchewan pipe bands gathered at Red Deer in very wet conditions for the annual Games. This was Alberta Caledonia’s first competition of the season, and had two solid runs. The band is playing new McCallum chanters, and a new set of Andante drums, both brands being a change from last year. Alberta is recently out of the recording studio, and the band is sounding confident and well prepared for the season.
In the Open Piping events, Andrew Smith of Alberta Caledonia won the Piobaireachd and MSR events, and Iain MacDonald of Avonlea won the jigs. Bands and soloists are off to Edmonton for the Edmonton Scottish Society Highland Games on Sunday.
