Donaldson hoists Donald MacDonald Quaich
Armadale, Skye, Scotland – June 13, 2008 – Friday the thirteenth was a good day for Brian Donaldson of Newburgh, Scotland, after he gained the Donald MacDonald Quaich for piobaireachd, sponsored by Glenfiddich, at the annual invitational ceol mor-only event.
Donaldson won with “The Groat,” and the other competitors were Euan MacCrimmon, Inverness, Scotland, “The Rout of Glenfruin”; Innes Smith, "The Massacre of Glencoe"; and Stuart Liddell, Inveraray, Scotland, "John Garbh MacLeod of Raasay’s Lament."
Each player plays a tune in a setting by Donald MacDonald, who was born in Skye and and died in 1840.
The contest was judged by Jack Taylor and is put on by the Clan Donald Association.
