Bonar wins his fifth BC Pipers Knockout
Vancouver – March 12, 2005 – The annual British Columbia Pipers Association (BCPA) Professional Piping Knockout Competition was won by Andrew Bonar of Surrey, British Columbia, his fifth win of the event, which was held at the BCPA’s annual dinner.
Jori Chisholm of Seattle was runner-up. Also in the final were Neil Macpherson, Coquitlam, British Columbia, and Andrew Lee of Surrey. The event called for a medley eight to 10 minutes long.
Alan Bevan, Hal Senyk, and James Troy were the judges.
The four made the final from a semi-final of eight in February, which was in turn derived from 16 pipers who played in the first round heats in November and December.
The BCPA’s dinner also included presentations to the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band’s drum section for its 2004 World Drum Corps Championship title, and to the 1980 Vancouver Ladies Pipe Band. 2005 marks the 25th anniversary of the now-defunct band’s win of the Grade 3 event at the 1980 World Pipe Band Championship.
