Audio: MacColl wins Todd Bar Recital Challenge
Glasgow – August 13, 2009 – Angus MacColl of Benderloch, Scotland, won the Todd Bar Recital Challenge, the annual competition held at the University of Strathclyde that asks invited players to perform whatever they wish within 20 minutes, provided they include a traditionally structured march, strathspey & reel and the ground of a piobaireachd.
Another packed house of more than 500 was enthralled by not only MacColl and the three other competitors: Alan Bevan, Abbotsford, British Columbia; Alasdair Gillies, Pittsburgh; and Stuart Liddell, Inveraray, Scotland.
The event was judged by an unidentified panel hand-picked by organizer Willie McCallum. McCallum indicated that the result after the judges’ tabulation was the closest ever in the history of the event.
MacColl, who also won the event in 2008, received a solid silver medal and £1,000.
