Updated: Live in Ireland 87 goes on sale as download
The video production of the January 30th Live In Ireland 87 concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall has been made available for download (approximately $25) or temporary access (approximately $10) via Vimeo.
The well-reviewed concert was a recreation of the 1987 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band’s concert and recording at Ballymena, Northern Ireland. The 2016 rendition brought back several surviving members of that band’s vintage, plus a number of pipe band luminaries and special guests, all led by the original 78th Frasers’ Pipe-Major Bill Livingstone.
In a news release Livingstone stated, “Even with a lifetime in good and great pipe bands, the week of the run-up and the show itself, stand as a monumental thrill for me. All of these superstars ditching the competition mind-set, and joining together to celebrate this music was humbling and emotionally charged.”
The video production is an hour and 45 minutes long, and, according to Livingstone, contains all of the material performed at the event. The statement said that “the video production is true to the day, including commentary, background and humour courtesy of comperes, John Wilson and Bob Worrall.”
Profits from video downloads and streaming sales will go equally to the College of Piping in Glasgow and the National Piping Centre.
“The 2,500 folks in the audience and the 40 musicians on stage all talk about it as one of the best experiences they have ever had in our little world,” Livinsgtone added.
The existing 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band was not involved with the product, and according to Livingstone have “no objection” to the project.
