Northern Meeting: Iain Speirs wins the Clasp; Henderson A HP&J . . . more

Iain Speirs

Inverness, Scotland – September 5, 2014 – Iain Speirs won his first Clasp at the Northern Meeting, probably the biggest single event in solo piping. The award adds to Speirs’ already bulging trophy-case, which includes four Silver Chanters, two Glenfiddich Championships, and the Senior Piobaireachd at the Argyllshire Gathering. Speirs’ win marked the first time in history that a father and son have gained the Clasp. Tom Speirs won the event in 1983.

The first result from the second day of competition at the 2014 Northern Meeting was the newly introduced B-Grade Hornpipe & Jig, which George Stewart won. Quickly following, results for the other events were announced.

The winner of the overall award at this year’s Northern Meeting was Stuart Liddell.
