Bucksburn lands FMM for fourth annual Aberdeen concert
Because “the majority go to a pipe band concert and tend to judge instead of just listening and enjoying the performance,” the May 3, 2014, concert in Aberdeen, Scotland, by nine-time and current World Champions Field Marshal Montgomery has been named “Just Listen – Don’t Think or Judge.”
The fourth annual event put on by the Grade 2 Bucksburn & District Pipe Band will pair FMM and Bucksburn in a pre-season show that has built a strong following in the Aberdeenshire area and beyond.
“The northeast of Scotland has a rich pipe band history, so the opportunity to play in front of a knowledgeable crowd will be an absolute privilege,” said FMM Pipe-Major Richard Parkes. “A concert so close to the start of the new season will be a good test for the band and provides an excellent opportunity to showcase new material, and the format of the concert allows the region to highlight the young piping and drumming talent being developed by bands such as Bucksburn & District.”
Bucksburn uses the event to give the younger members of their large organization a chance to share the stage with major Grade 1 bands. Previous performers include Grade 1 powerhouses Boghall & Bathgate, Inveraray & District and St. Laurence O’Toole.
“To kick-start the season with one of the best bands in history is nothing more than amazing,” said Bucksburn President Gus McAskill. “To say we are delighted is a huge understatement. Now in our fourth year, the concert has grown to an incredible level. To have FMM as our guests is something to be very proud of and I know that they will be greatly received by the audience.”Tickets will go on sale soon at the box office of the 1,281-seat Aberdeen Music Hall.
McAskill said that the name for the concert was created by both Bucksburn and FMM.
