Bucksburn appoints Lipp L-D after Haggart steps down

The Grade 2 Bucksburn & District Pipe Band of Aberdeen, Scotland, has made Simon Lipp Leading-Drummer after incumbent Mike Haggart stepped down due to health reasons.

Lipp had played with Bucksburn during the 2013 season after coming from the Grade 1 ScottishPower for the previous 10 years. He also played with Shotts & Dykehead under L-D Jim Kilpatrick. Haggart had played with Bucksburn for the last few seasons, with the band remaining competitive at the Grade 2 level, last year consistently on the periphery of the prize-list at most RSPBA major championships.

“Mike committed himself to the band knowing that it was a long term position and project,” said Bucksburn Pipe-Sergeant Gus McAskill. “However, his term . . . has been cut short due to health. What Mike has achieved as leading-drummer is something to be proud of and can happily hand over a corps with a different mindset and talent. After spending the last few years with Mike the drum corps have learned from his Grade 1 experiences and talent giving them the right attitude to go into greater things.”
