Hogg boss at Joburg
Johannesburg – March 2, 2013 – The first South African solo event of the year, run by the ISH Piping Society of the Witwatersrand, was the Pipe-Major Alexander “Sandy” Mallen Memorial Solo Piping Competition, held at King Edward VII School, Johannesburg. The event is named in memory of Sandy Mallen, a leading tutor for many decades in South Africa, and his pupils and their pupils in turn form part of the foundation of South African solo piping today. Mallen was taught by, among others, Willie Ross and George Yeardley, a pupil of John MacDougall-Gillies. Joshua Hogg was the overall winner on the day.
