Aughintober’s ScottishPower concert brings good news to Belfast

The Grade 2 Aughintober Pipe Band is taking a major leap of faith by putting on an ambitious concert by the Grade 1 ScottishPower Pipe Band at a time when the city of Belfast could use some good news in the wake of renewed sectarian controversies.

The April 27th concert at the Waterfront Hall in the heart of the city has been expanded to include several high-profile artists from the Celtic folk scene, including Chris Stout, Finlay McDonald, Catriona McKay and Ross Martin, all – like ScottishPower – acts that are receiving sharper profile in the public eye.

“Seeing ScottishPower Pipe Band at the Waterfront hall will be a magnificent evening for the pipe band enthusiast, but the fact that some of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians will take the stage make this concert a great way to spend an April Saturday evening for everyone to enjoy,” said Glenn Ferry of Aughintober. “There has been some unwelcome press concerning Belfast in recent times but I’m sure that this concert will attract a significant number of people to the city’s hotels, bars and restaurants.”  

Tickets are priced at £20 and £18 and, in a similar manner to the annual “Pre-World’s Concert” that the Grade 2 Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band has mounted for several decades, proceeds go to Aughintober’s coffers.

An after-party has already been planned following the concert, according to Ferry.
