LA Scots take both days at Queen Mary
Long Beach, California – February 20-21, 2011 – The Los Angeles Scots won both the Grade 1 MSR and the Medley events at the annual Queen Mary Scottish Festival held at around and on the famous Clydebank-built ocean liner, now a hotel and host venue for the games. Ian Whitelaw won the traditional Open Solo Piping events, while Alex Gandy of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, flew from competing at the Metro Cup in Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday to compete in Long Beach on Sunday, winning the Kitchenpiping competition and the $300 first-prize. The judges for all band events were Richard Parkes, piping; Andrew Hoinacki, ensemble; and Gordon Craig, drumming.
