Silver Chanter goes to Gordon Walker
Dunvegan, Skye, Scotland – August 4, 2010 – The 44th annual Silver Chanter MacCrimmon Memorial Piobaireachd Competition was awarded to Gordon Walker of Galston, Scotland, the first time the famous piper had garnered the prize. Walker continued a hot streak in the solos after winning all the events at the Arisaig games the previous Saturday, as well as firsts in the Clasp to the Dunvegan Medal, the MSR and the Hornpipe & Jig Col. On August 3rd at the Skye Highland Games.
Walker’s tune was “Lament for the Children.” Competitors at the invitational Silver Chanter are given a tune either accredited to or strongly associated with the legendary MacCrimmon piping dynasty. The event was judged by John Wilson.
Also playing in the competition Willie McCallum, Bearsden, Scotland, (“Lament for the Earl of Antrim”); Dr Angus MacDonald, Skye (“Lament for MacSwan of Roiag”); Angus MacColl, Benderloch, Scotland (“MacLeod of Raasay’s Salute”); Stuart Liddell, Inveraray, Scotland (“The Earl of Ross’s March”); and Roddy MacLeod, Glasgow (“Lament for Donald Duaghal MacKay”).
