Update 1: Kilpatrick elected to Trad Music Hall of Fame
Jim Kilpatrick has been made a member of the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame, the first pipe band drummer ever to have received the award.
Kilpatrick was officially inducted as part of the 2009 Trad Music Awards, and joined accordionist, composer and radio presenter Bill Black; Celtic folk musician and composer Dick Gaughan; piper, singer and teacher Rona Lightfoot; accordionist Phil Cunningham; and Scots traditional singer Sheena Wellington in this year’s accolades.
About the award, Kilpatrick said, “This award is certainly an honour and I really appreciate the recognition. I have been fortunate to have surrounded myself with many wonderful and talented people in the pipe band and percussion world. I would like to thank them for their friendship and support and dedicate the award to every single one of them.”
The Hall of Fame was established in 2004 as an award for “musicians who have altered the Scottish musical landscape for the better.” Others from the piping and drumming world elected are Iain MacLellan, the former Pipe-Major of the Glasgow/Strathclyde Police Pipe Band, and the legendary solo pipers John D. Burgess, Iain MacFadyen and Donald MacPherson.
Kilpatrick is the Lead-Drummer of the House of Edgar-Shotts & Dykehead Pipe Band and 16-times winner of the World Solo Drumming Championship. In a recent pipes|drums Poll, he was named the second greatest pipe band drummer of all time, closely following the legendary Alex Duthart.
Huge congrats to jim, but one cant help thinking that Duthart should be there beside him?
First Class Jim! Well deserved, an inspiration to drummers the World over. Congratulations.
I checked out the Trad site and it would be that you have to nominate people for them to have a chance. My expectation is that Duthart just wasnt nominated so you should do that. Well deserved JK.
Congrats to JK and well done the Hall of fame folk for giving due recognition to a true legend and national treasure. Isn’t he looking trim in that photo as well, I think he’s never looked better!
Congratulations, Jim.
Hard to think of a more deserving recipient for this honour. Well done, Jim!
Congratulations Jim!
