Melvin resigns as Midlothian Pipe-Major

Adrian Melvin has resigned as the Pipe-Major of the Grade 2 Midlothian Scottish Pipe Band of Chicago. His departure closely follows that of long-time Leading-Drummer, Jim Sim Jr., who left the band after more than 30 years.

Melvin, a former member of the Victoria Police, 78th Fraser Highlanders, Vale of Atholl and other bands, had succeeded Ian Swinton as Pipe-Major in November 2008. Swinton had led Midlothian for 34 years.

The Midlothian band has allegedly experienced the loss of several other members due to retirement, and the future of the organization, which formed in 1975, reportedly is uncertain.

The band finished second in Grade 2 at the 2009 North American Championships, winning the MSR section of the competition.

Melvin has joined the Grade 1 Peel Regional Police, according to Peel Pipe-Major, John Cairns..
