Duncan collection being re-printed

The original 1987 collection by Ian and Gordon Duncan, A Few Tunes for the Highland Bagpipe, is being re-printed with 2000 copies available beginning in August.

With a new title, A Few Tunes – and Mair – for the Highland Bagpipe, the collection adds new tunes from Gary West, Ross Ainslie, Ali Hutton and Stevie Saint, as well as photos from the era that it was originally produced. According to Ian Duncan the book will retain its black-and-white format to keep costs down, but will have a new A4 size. The collection will retail for about £10.

Duncan said that the all of the tunes have been typeset again and updated. The typesetting was due to the original printer going out of business and losing the plates from the 1987 printing. The book was the first collection including original compositions by the late Gordon Duncan and all proceeds will go to the Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust, which was set up in 2006 and has been the beneficiary of several piping events, including concerts, competitions and proceeds from the sale of Gordon Duncan’s Tunes, released in 2007.

Ian Duncan said that the collection will be available during the week of the Piping Live! festival in Glasgow and from dealers ongoing.

Many of the compositions included in A Few Tunes – and Mair – for the Highland Bagpipe were featured in medleys played in the 1980s by the Grade 1 Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, of which Ian and Gordon Duncan were pipe-major and pipe-sergeant, respectively.
