pipes|drums Pub Quiz returns to Piping Live!

For the second straight year, pipes|drums will stage a piping and drumming “Pub Quiz” at Piping Live!, with this year’s event scheduled for 2 pm on Thursday, August 13th, at the National Piping Centre, immediately following the recital by famed piper Alasdair Gillies.

 

The event is free and open to all who wish to put together a team, which must have at least two people and no more than four. As with the 2008 Trivia Quiz, which was won by Eric Stein’s team from Long Island, New York, questions will cover all aspects of piping, drumming and pipe bands, with varying degrees of difficulty.

 

Prize money for the 2009 event remains the same: £200 for first, £100 for second, and £50 for third.

 

Invitations are going out to bands to enter a team, and it is rumoured that two prominent Glasgow-based institutions of piping may challenge each other to determine which knows more.

 

“We’re happy to bring the pipes|drums Pub Quiz back to Piping Live!” said Andrew Berthoff, editor of the online magazine and designated quiz-master. “It’s a great chance for a few supper-smart teams to win enough prize-money to buy a round for a few dozen of their closest friends, colleagues or band-mates.”

In addition to prize money, all participants will have the chance to receive merchandise from sponsors and pipes|drums gear.

 

Since it’s a pub quiz, the bar will be open at the event. All questions will be hermetically sealed in a mayonnaise jar guarded by the good people at Funk & Wagnall.
