Metro Cup adds $1000 solid gold coin to winner’s purse
The annual Metro Cup Solo Invitational Piping Championship will have its usual cast of premier pipers on February 21, 2009, but this year will add an American Eagle fifty-dollar one-ounce solid gold coin – with a value of approximately US$1,000 – to the overall winner’s prizes, which could reach as much as US$3,000.
2008 Metro Cup Winner Willie McCallum of Bearsden, Scotland, will return to defend the title. Other invitees are:

The event will be held at the Holiday Inn North in Newark, New Jersey, with tickets priced at $30 each available from organizer Eric Stein.
Also on tap at the event will be the Pipe-Major George M. Bell Amateur Championship, which features a Grade 1 Amateur piper from each branch of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association and one top-drawer Grade 1 player from each of Southern United States Pipe Band Association, Midwest Pipe Band Association, Western United States Pipe Band Association, Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario and the winner of the 2008 CLASP final in Scotland.
