LA Scots preview Dumfries August Charity concert

On the heels of Simon Fraser University and Field Marshal Montgomery, the Los Angeles Scots Pipe Band have accepted the invitation to perform on August 11, 2008, at the now annual charity concert put on by the Dumfries & Galloway Constabulary Pipe Band.

 

“We are very excited about playing for this event,” said Scott MacDonald, LA Scots’ band president. “Not only does it help many people within this community, but it also helps out the band with expenses. It is becoming more and more difficult to travel to Scotland because of rising airfares and accommodation costs, and the band appreciates being asked to perform this year.”

 

MacDonald revealed that his band recently made a final payment of $53,000 for flights to Glasgow from Los Angeles.

 

Organized by the Dumfries & Galloway police force, proceeds from the concert with go this year to the Dumphries & Galloway Respiratory Endowment Fund, set up to assist patients of debilitating respiratory disease by providing portable respirators to the local hospital.

 

While not going in to detail, MacDonald said that the band has put together “a very entertaining evening of pipe band music and a few other surprises.”

 

The band, making its sixth trip to Scotland since being promoted to Grade 1, will also compete in the quartet competition at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. The LA Scots finished eleventh at the World’s in 2007, the third time the band took the placing.

 

MacDonald added that the band will perform as part of the Eric Idle‘s “Not The Messiah” show at the world famous Hollywood Bowl on August 1st and 2nd.
