Fredericton makes Perry Pipe-Major, replaces Wilson
After 10 years as Pipe-Major, Derick Wilson is moving over to hand the reins of the Grade 1 Fredericton Society of Saint Andrew Pipe Band of Fredericton, New Brunswick, to Gord Perry.
Perry has been a member of the band since 2005, and before then was a member of Alberta Caledonia, City of Regina and Winnipeg Celtic. Wilson plans to stay on “as a key player [and] an integral aspect in the band continuing to move forward,” according to Pipe-Sergeant and band President Chris Gallant.
Under Wilson, who succeeded Sandy Gordon in the top spot, Fredericton won the Grade 2 prize at the North American Championships in 2001 and 2006, and was promoted to Grade 1 for the 2007 season.
“The band owes Derick the greatest amount of gratitude for all his hard work and efforts to bring us to the level we are at today,” Gallant said.
The band’s drum section is reportedly no affected, with Leading-Drummer Matt Carter direction the corps.
