Ottawa Memorial solo piping slated for September 29
The 2007 Canadian Police Memorial Invitational Piping Contest, which was restarted in 2006 after the passing of its original organizer, Pat Hayes, will take place again on Septmebr 29th at Ottawa City Hall, 111 Lisgar Street. The Memorial Invitational is linked with the Canadian Police & Peace Officers Memorial that occurs on Parliament Hill on September 30, and all funds raised from the competition go to the Canadian Police Memorial Fund, and organization that supports the survivors of public safety workers who died in the line of duty.
The Piobaireachd event starts at 1:00 p.m. and the Pat Hayes Memorial MSR Competition begins at 7 p.m.
The winner of the MSR will be awarded the Pat Hayes Memorial Cross, which will be presented annually. The medal’s design reflects the Order of Merit medal that Hayes received from Canada’s Governor General, and also features the crest of the Ottawa Police, with which Hayes served for 36 years.
Competing in the contest will be Ian K. MacDonald, Toronto; Glenn Brown, Milton, Ontario; James MacHattie, Toronto; Lionel Tupman, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario; Scott McIntosh; Andrew Hayes, Ottawa; and Sean McKeown, Toronto.
Both events will be judged by Bob Worrall.
According to organizer Keith Theobald of Ottawa, “McAuslan Ale is supporting the event and a Beer Garden will be set up, allowing for players and audience to interact, while enjoying a beverage.”
