Grade 1 Prince Charles band cancels season
2007 is another no-go for the Grade 1 Prince Charles Pipe Band of San Francisco, with the group has deciding not to compete at all. The organization’s Grade 3 and Grade 4 bands each plan to make it out this season.
“We regret [that] the Prince Charles Grade 1 Pipe Band will not compete in the 2007 season,” said Pipe-Major Colin Berta. “We entered this season hopeful that we could build sufficient momentum to continue competing at a high level. However, a number of members of the band have family, work and personal priorities and commitments that would not allow us to maintain the high standard of playing to which we hold ourselves.”
Prince Charles had planned to compete at the North American Championships at Maxville, Ontario, in August, in a return to competition form after taking off almost the entire 2006 season. The band had previously reported that it fully expected to return to competition in full force.
With the Windsor Police Pipe Band opting to forego Maxville in favour of a high-paying performance in Ohio, the Grade 1 contest is now down to five bands.
“The organization is exploring options for future opportunities and will continue to do so over the coming months; nothing is currently set in stone,” Berta added.

This is unwelcome news indeed I must say. Always bad to hear of another band not getting out. Hop they can stick together and see another day.
