Bob Dunsire, 1953-2006
Bob Dunsire, the creator and developer of several popular piping and drumming related websites, died on the morning of November 7 in Washington state. He had been battling cancer for several years. He was 53.
Though not a piper of renown, through the success of his various websites Dunsire became a well known name in the world piping and drumming community. In the late 1990s he identified the power of the World Wide Web to bring together people, and launched the Bagpipe Web Directory and, in 2001, the Forums at BobDunsire.com.
It is not yet know if all of the web properties that he ran will continue, but his daughter reportedly will take over the Forums.
In addition to piping, Dunsire was an avid photographer, and he shared many of his photos on his websites.
The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band has been asked to play at the funeral on Sunday, November 12. Bob Dunsire’s daughters are pipers in the SFU organization.
pipes|drums extend our sympathies to Bob Dunsire’s survivors and friends.
I am totally shocked by the news! Only a few two or three weeks ago I had my regular e-mail chat with Bob about his forum. I will sincerely miss him as an e-mail pal and the pipeband world will dearly miss him for all his good work. My sincere condoleances to the family. May he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathies to family and friends. Bob put us on the map, what an amazing ambassador for the piping and drumming community. Thanks Bob!!
