City of Chicago promoted to Grade 2; appoints new L-D

The Midwest Pipe Band Association (MWPBA) has advanced the City of Chicago Pipe Band to Grade 2. The band also appointed a new Leading-Drummer.

Marty Boyle, former Leading-Drummer of the Grade 3 Chicago Metropolitan Pipe Band, takes over the lead-tip role from Jim Bush.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank . . . Jim Bush, for the countless hours he put into building our drum corps,” Pipe-Major Jason Freeman said. “Without him, we would not have been able to form the band and none of this would have been possible.”

Freeman added that City of Chicago plans to compete in Ontario “several times” in 2007. He also said that the band aspires to make its first trip to the Eastern United States.

“We’re expecting to field a large band next year and have made many new additions already,” Freeman continued.

City of Chicago was second in Grade 3 at the Chatham Highland Games on the PPBSO circuit in 2006 with two firsts in piping, a first in ensemble, and an eighth in drumming.
