North American associations holding MAP seminar with RSPBA
Several North American pipe band associations will link with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) on March 25 for a two-and-a-half-hour teleconference on the RSPBA’s new Musical Appreciation and Presentation (MAP) educational and competition format program for Grade 4 and Novice Juvenile bands.
The MAP system is being introduced at RSPBA major championships this summer for the lower grades and calls for bands to perform tunes from a set list of compositions and scores.
Alistair Aitken, director of the RSPBA’s Academy of Pipe Band Musicianship, will connect by phone from Glasgow.
Ten North American sites will connect: Vernon, British Columbia; Courtenay, British Columbia; Coquitlam, British Columbia; Milton, Ontario; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Seattle; Portland; Salt Lake City; Denver; and Chicago.
Pipers, drummers and judges interested in participating in the teleconference should contact the President of their home association or society for specifics, and further details are available at the Alliance of North American Pipe Band Association’s Web site.
The inter-continental teleconference was proposed at the ANAPBA Summit in Orlando in January.
