Polkemmet makes a drumming move
The Grade 2 Polkemmet Pipe Band, one of Scotland’s oldest civilian bands, has appointed Alistair McNabb as to the position of leading-drummer, taking over from James King, who retired after the 2005 season in which the band competed in a handful of contests.
McNab most recently played with the Robert Wiseman Dairies Vale of Atholl Pipe Band’s drum section, but left that band when it brought back Paul Turner as its lead-tip. McNab also played with Australia’s Queensland Police with Polkemmet’s current pipe-major, David Barnes.
In a statement from Polkemmet, the band says, “It is hoped that under Alistair’s guidance the drum corps will be able to recruit the calibre of players required to progress towards Grade 2 championship-wining status and ultimately progression to Grade 1.”
The band also said that its pipe section numbers 23 players.
