L.A. Scots pull out of Maxville

The Los Angeles Scots Pipe Band has decided not to attend the 2004 North American Championships at Maxville, Ontario, after confirming their intention to compete at the world’s largest piping and drumming event.

In addition, defending North American Champions the 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel) in all likelihood will not return to Maxville this year to defend the title.

The Grade 1 band event will likely be a four-band contest, with 2004 Canadian Champions the Peel Regional Police, the Toronto Police, the 78th Fraser Highlanders and the City of Washington now scheduled to take part.

While the L.A. Scots have not yet responded to inquiries regarding their decision, the 78th Highlanders have indicated that their decision will be based strictly on finances as the band focuses its attention on its trip to the 2004 World Pipe Band Championships. The World’s trip is thought to be costing the 78th Highlanders approximately $40,000.

“B In The Park” show also impacted

The July 29th “B In The Park” show in Ottawa announced in May is impacted by the L.A. Scots decision not to come to Maxville.

The RCMP Pipes & Drums of Ottawa have agreed to fill in for the California band.
