All-Ireland Goes To Field Marshal Again

Kilkenny, Ireland – July 6, 2002 – The All-Ireland Pipe Band Championship was won for the record twelfth time by the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band of Belfast. The contest was held on the scenic grounds of Kilkenny Castle.

In what can only be described as an upset, the St. Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band of Dublin was second, edging overseas band ScottishPower, which again made the trip to the contest. St. Laurence O’Toole was fresh off its sixth prize at the European Pipe Band Championships at Belfast on June 22nd. Perhaps even more surprising was that St. Laurence O’Toole was placed first in drumming.
