Murray Henderson Comes Out of ‘Retirement’

Murray Henderson, one of the most successful competing pipers of the last thirty years, has entered to compete at the annual Scottish Pipers Society of London competitions on November 3 in London, England.

Henderson has not competed since he won the piobaireachd event at the Glenfiddich Championships in 1995.

“It’s no big deal as far as I’m concerned,” said Henderson when asked about his return to the boards, “I just fancy having a tune.”

It is thought that Henderson was inspired to play at London after working closely with fellow New Zealander Richard Hawke at this year’s Northern Meeting.

A native of New Zealand, and a resident now of Kirriemuir, Scotland, Henderson has won five Bratach Gorm events at London to date. “The Bratach” is the first qualifier contest for the Glenfiddich Championships. He also has four Clasps and five Silver Chanters to his credit.
