Fifth Annual Police Memorial Contest in Ottawa

Ottawa, Ontario – September 29, 2001 –The fifth annual Memorial Police Invitational Piping Competition was held in Ottawa with nine pipers participating. The contest is part of Canada’s national memorial weekend in tribute to police officers who have died in the line of duty.

Bill Livingstone, Whitby, Ontario, won the Piobaireachd section, and Ian K. MacDonald, also of Whitby, won the Light Music event, which had competitors play a march, strathspey, reel, hornpipe and jig.

The contest has gained a reputation in North America as one of the best run events of the year.

Both sections were judged by Jack Lee, Surrey, British Columbia. Remarkably, it was the first time that Lee has judged in Ontario.
