‘Pipeline’ To Start Webcasts December 30

BBC Radio Scotland has announced officially that “Pipeline,” its popular, hour-long weekly show on piping will commence broadcast on the Internet on December 30, 2000.

The show will be aired every Saturday at 8:00 p.m. GMT at www.bbc.co.uk/scotland.

Produced and presented by Iain MacInnes, Pipeline showcases solo and band performances, interviews, history, and general commentary from the piping world. MacInnes is a member of the folk group Ossian, and has played in pipe bands and competed successfully on the solo circuit.

According to MacInnes: “One of the things that has sustained the Pipeline program over the years has been the intense level of overseas interest, and we’ll certainly be doing our best to represent the best of piping from around the world. Our new Saturday evening slot means that we’ll be able to get events
such as the World pipe Band Championships on air more or less as soon as they happen. I’m very pleased with the way things have
developed.”

Pipeline will be part of the overall launch of the Radio Scotland Web site. Since the 1940s, the BBC has been broadcasting pipe music in Scotland, and Pipeline draws on a substantial archive of interviews and recorded music,
ranging from Irish and Northumbrian piping, to solo Highland piping and pipe bands.

According to MacInnes, the show at the outset will be broadcast only “live,” and no archived shows will be made available.
