Michael Grey steps down as Peel Regional Police Pipe Major

Toronto, Ontario – September 1, 1999 – Michael Grey has resigned as Pipe Major of the Grade 1 Peel Regional Police Pipe Band of Brampton, Ontario. Grey had accepted the invitation to take over the band in late 1994.

“It was an extremely difficult decision for me, but, between my Celtworks.com business, my solo piping, and my career, I simply could not give the band the time it deserves,” Grey said. “I was extremely fortunate to have been able to work with such a talented group of pipers and drummers, and I’m sure the band will continue to go from strength to strength under new leadership.”

Peel Police, which has finished in the top 11 in each of the last three years it attended the World Championships, had an excellent season in 1999, despite finishing second to the 78th Fraser Highlanders at each Ontario contest.

Under Grey’s direction, Peel Police made “Waulking the Beat,” a highly regarded recording on the Lismor label.

There was no indication of who will become Pipe Major of Peel Police, although it is widely believed that former P/M John Elliott would resume his leadership.

Grey plans to increase his commitment to solo piping and Celtworks.
