BG: Bratach Gorm = Bruce Gandy
London – October 25,2003 – Bruce Gandy of Halifax, Nova Scotia, won the Bratach Gorm (Blue Banner) for piobaireachd at the annual competitions run by the Scottish Pipers Society of London in the shadow of Hampton Court. By winning the Bratach and the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medals at the Northern Meeting and the Argyllshire Gathering, Gandy has won three of piping’s greatest prizes in the space of only fourteen months.
The Bratach Gorm is reserved for pipers who have won any of the Gold Medals, the Dunvegan Medal at Portree, or the Open Piobaireachd at London.
Willie McCallum of Bearsden, Scotland, gained the most aggregate points to be named the Champion Piper of the day. He won the Open Piobaireachd, the A Grade March, and was second in the Hornpipe & Jig.
